A man has tested positive for coronavirus in regional Western Australia after flying home from hotel quarantine in Melbourne.

The WA Health Department said the positive result, which was described as a ‘very weak positive’, is likely evidence of a previous infection.

The man, aged in his 30s, had recently returned to Australia from Poland and had tested negative to both tests during his mandatory two-week quarantine.

‘He tested negative to COVID-19 on all his tests while in hotel quarantine,’ the department said.

‘On his return to Collie, he was retested as part of Vic Health’s follow-up of people post-quarantine.

‘He returned a very weak positive result, which is sometimes seen in people with old, recovered infections.’

More to come.
