Man, 66, is in intensive care with blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine

A 66-year-old Queensland man is in intensive care withy blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the man is at Townsville Hospital, with early investigations suggesting his clots are directly related to the vaccine.

‘TGA has confirmed with me that they believe that his illness is a direct result of the AstraZeneca vaccine,’ she said.

‘He received the first dose of the vaccine on March 30, subsequently developed some abdominal pain and presented to the Townsville hospital, where he was admitted and tested and it’s now been confirmed that he is most likely developed that syndrome.

‘So, of course, my thoughts go out to him and to his family at this very difficult time for them.’

More to come.
