The jury in the trial of an undercover TV researcher accused of torturing and murdering a cannabis dealer in front of his two children was discharged today after failing to reach a verdict.

Christopher Guest More, 43, was standing trial at Chester Crown Court accused of the murder of father-of-two Brian Waters, 44, who was killed at Burnt House Farm in Tabley, Cheshire, on June 19 2003.

More, who once worked for Channel 4 and was arrested in Malta in 2019, also denies conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm to Mr Waters and to Suleman Razak, who worked on the cannabis farm.

More was accused of murdering Waters over a £20,000 drug debt.

More and his cousin James Raven, then 43, had previously been tasked by Channel 4 with finding a cannabis farm to be used for ‘covert filming’ on Channel 4’s flagship investigative programme, Dispatches.

No footage resulting from his work was ever screened.

Jurors in his trial were sent out last week but today, after 15 hours and 30 minutes of deliberations, judge Sir Peter Openshaw discharged them as they were unable to reach verdicts.

The case was adjourned to another date to be fixed.
