Jetstar launches huge sale where travellers can snap up their return flight for FREE – but you’ll have to be very quick

  • Comes amid price war with the airline Rex as rivals battle for domestic market

Jetstar has launched a flash sale offering jetsetters flights across Australia for as little as $55 and the chance to snap up return flights for free.

The budget airline’s ‘return for free’ sale starts at midnight on Wednesday, giving travel bugs access to 340,000 fares for routes across the country.

The sale – which will last until 11.59pm on Thursday unless sold out earlier – includes popular routes like Melbourne to Sydney and Brisbane to Uluru.

Club Jetstar members can access the sale early from 12pm on Tuesday before it opens to the public 12 hours later.

Other destinations include Margaret River, Gold Coast, Cairns, Hobart, Hervey Bay, and Hamilton Island.

Melbourne to Sydney is on offer from $55, and Sydney to Hervey Bay tickets can be bought from $151.

Brisbane to Uluru is priced at $179, as is Melbourne to Busselton, gateway to the WA south west including the Margaret River wine region.

Jetstar’s sale follows regional airline Rex on Monday announced it will offer full-service flights from Sydney to Melbourne from $39.

Jetstar also has cheap flights on offer between major cities, including flights between Melbourne and Sydney from $30.

The airline is moving some of its international fleet to domestic routes, which it said would create hundreds of jobs.

About 30,000 Qantas and Jetstar employees lost their jobs in March last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The latter has since expanded its number of domestic routes to 58 – servicing 21 domestic destinations –  as the airline attempts to make up for the shortfall in revenue from international flights.
