Hundreds of baby spiders have been spotted clinging to the back of a massive one nestled in a garden before the tiny critters scampered away when they were noticed.
A woman from Cobargo on the NSW south coast made the terrifying discovery in her yard last week and turned to social media to find out the species.
‘I found this spider with lots of baby spiders on its back while I was mowing. I moved it out of harms way and then when I went back to take another photo, all the babies had gone. Please can someone ID it for me?’ she posted on Facebook.

Viewers quickly identified the creepy critters as wolf spiders.
‘Damn that’s scary still – even without the 300 babies that could crawl all over me. Just made me shiver and wipe my arms,’ a friend commented on the post.
Commonly found across Australia, wolf spiders are robust, agile hunters that live on the ground and are often found in lawns and gardens.
They are non-aggressive but will bite if provoked and should be considered dangerous to humans.
Their bite is venomous but not lethal.
