Horrified mum finds a baby SNAKE buried inside a bag of lettuce bought from Aldi – and it’s alive

A horrified mum has revealed how she found a baby snake still alive in a bag of cos lettuce that her son had bought from Aldi.

The woman posted the incredible pictures on Facebook after her son bought the bag of lettuce from their local supermarket in Mosman on Sydney’s north shore.

Horrified by the surprise discovery, the woman quickly called wildlife experts to retrieve her unexpected guest. 

The trapped snake was a potentially dangerous baby pale headed snake, and was later collected by the Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service.

Lesley Kuhn, who posted the photos online, warned others to be careful when purchasing packaged lettuce.

‘Check packaged lettuces carefully. Last night my son found a baby pale headed snake in with his baby cos lettuce from Aldi,’ she wrote.

Many were shocked at the discovery with many leaving horrified comments.

‘Yikes!,’ wrote one.

‘Oh my lordie!,’ another commented.

‘That’s awful!,’ wrote a third.

One joker added: ‘Lucky. I never get a free pet snake in my shopping.’ 

The pale headed snake is a potentially dangerous snake with haemotoxic venom that feeds on frogs, reptiles and small mammals. 

Pale headed snake 

The Pale headed snake is a slender snake that grows up to 90cm.

It can be identified by its black to greyish back, the head is a lighter grey with dark spots with a distinctive white nape stripe at the back of its head. 

The snake feeds on a variety of vertebrates, particularly tree-dwelling species, including frogs, geckos, skinks and bats.

It is a shy species but will become agitated quickly if cornered.

There have been no recorded fatalities from this snake but an bites can produce unpleasant symptoms, including: severe headache, blurred vision, localized pain, and abnormal bleeding. 

Medical attention is advised for anyone receiving a bite from this species.
