'Gigantic SEX mirror' in bedroom of a 'charming' £875,000 Kent property raises eyebrows

A huge sex mirror in the bedroom of a fancy cottage worth hundreds of thousands of pounds has shocked house hunters.

Potential buyers did a double-take after finding the large mirror fixed to the ceiling above one of the beds in a £875,000 house up for sale in Dane Court Gardens, Broadstairs, Kent.

One house hunter even joked it could allow the owner, or anyone sleeping in the room, to go ‘full Patrick Bateman’, who is a fictional serial killer and sex addict from American Psycho.

The flashy three-bed house is billed as a ‘generous and private home’ with ‘secluded gardens,’ a heated swimming pool and a gated driveway.

Yet it’s the interesting positioning of a mirror directly above a wooden-framed bed that intrigued and repulsed imaginative property viewers in equal measure.

It looms over the bed and there is an oddly positioned telly on the wall to the side of it.

Pete Brissenden quipped: ‘Do you not think that if you have a gigantic sex mirror above the bed you’d take it down before the estate agent came to take the photos?’

He added: ‘The whole setup is beyond comprehension really. There’s a TV mounted at a weird place too.’

Mr Brissenden jokingly likened it to the main character out of the book and film American Psycho.

‘Maybe it’s for going full Patrick Bateman,’ he said. ‘And you can link the video camera up to it and get two angles at once?’

Fictional character Bateman is a serial killer and sexual deviant in Bret Easton Ellis’s novel played by Christian Bale in the movie adaptation.

Another house hunter said the weirdness of the TV would depend on what you were showing.

‘It fits in with that mirror,’ they said. ‘Shudder.’

Ignoring the elephant in the room, Emma Victory joked: ‘Urgh. Dark and light wood.’

Other viewers were worried about the mirror falling in the night.

Another house hunter – known only as Christopher – said: ‘I’d worry about it not being properly secured.

The ‘charming property hides behind hedgerow for privacy’ and is ‘tucked away in a quite cul-de-sac’in Broadstairs, Kent – according to Wards estate agents.

Wards adds: ‘This generous and private home offers everything your family needs.

‘With a heated swimming pool and secluded private gardens, there is space for the whole family.

‘A viewing is highly advised.’

He kills women largely for sexual pleasure, although slaughters others as well, including a child and a cat.

Bateman’s portrayal by Bale, who shows off the character’s glitzy lifestyle as well as its more gruesome aspects, has led to the film having a cult following since its release at the turn of the century.

American Psycho debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2000, before it was let out in cinemas on April 14, 2000. It received mostly positive reviews and was a financial success.
