The trio – 11-year-old Josephine Felber, her mother Julie Sebkova and another friend – were able to stay afloat by holding on to Dangerfield’s board as they waited for a surf lifesaver on a jetski to take them back to shore.

They waited in the rough water for 15 minutes before the jetski arrived.

‘ He said: ‘hold onto my foot, we will get through this’,’ Ms Sebkova told 9News.

Surf Life Saving Victoria will offer him an Everyday Lifesaver award in recognition of his ‘bravery and selflessness’.
