A missing four-year-old girl with non-verbal autism and a hearing impairment has been found sitting under a tree with her puppy after spending the night in the Central Australian desert.

Molly was found 8km from a remote outstation near Titjikala – about 120km south of Alice Springs – where she went missing about 2pm on Friday.

Helicopters, police drones, dogs and patrol vehicles were brought in but family said it was a mysterious dream and Indigenous knowledge that led to her being found.

Molly’s cousin Que Kenny told the ABC the little girl and her dog were spotted quietly sitting on a small hill in the Simpson desert on Saturday afternoon by an Aboriginal search crew.

She said a local young man had a dream which told him where the little girl was located, and he led a search group to her over six hours in 30C heat.

The man was planning on going to Alice Springs on Sunday but stayed back to help the search after his vision.

‘He led the rescue team, as we followed, others turned back, but we continued to keep going,’ she said.

‘It started getting to me because I ran out of water … and I started getting dry lips.’

The group finally spotted Molly in the little shade found in the remote area, and then drove her to the community for a health check.

‘Easter is all about hope. And we’ve never given up hope looking for her,’ said Ms Kenny.

Ms Kenny criticised the effort of local police and said they did not search far enough  despite the requests of the family.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Northern Territory Police.

Police previously said in a press release that Molly appeared well after being found.

Acting Superintendent Michael Potts said due to the remote location, other details of the successful search are to be confirmed.

‘Northern Territory Police would like to thank everyone involved in the search. Significant resources were deployed to assist in the operation,’ she said.

‘It’s a huge relief for everyone involved.’
