A New Zealand family’s pregnant dog named Pippa was stolen, only for her to be later dumped at their home without her four puppies.

Pippa was taken from the Joyce family’s home in Taranaki on the North Island on Easter Monday.

The three-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was pregnant with four cavoodle puppies, which can sell for up to $5,000 each.

The family offered a $2,500 reward for the safe return of their beloved dog.

A week later, Ms Joyce received a text from the dognapper from an unknown number, saying they had Pippa and wanted to return her.

The beloved pooch was left outside the home of her owners without her puppies and in poor health.

‘We’re over the moon. But we’re still worried about her health and the trauma she’s been through and how that’s going to affect her,’ owner Margaret Joyce told Stuff.

‘My kids saw her first so they were screaming. We were just over the moon.’

Ms Joyce believes Pippa was stolen so her puppies could be sold for a hefty profit, which she says is a ‘big concern’.

‘It’s unthinkable and disgusting what these low life thieves have done. Poor Pippa will be depressed not having her pups with her,’ she said.

Ms Joyce believes the thieves were too scared to keep Pippa due to the amount of press her disappearance garnered.

She also made a heartbreaking plea to the thieves to return the puppies safely.

‘It’s so heartless and so very sad. If the person who has the pups sees this post, PLEASE drop them to Pippa or the vets so they can be reunited,’ Ms Joyce wrote on social media.

‘They may die without her nurturing.’

Pippa received a blood transfusion from the vets on Monday before being returned to her family.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter.
