Dick Van Dyke spotted running errands with wife ahead of their 10th wedding anniversary

Dick Van Dyke is proving he isn’t letting age slow him down as he was seen staying active and sprightly in his Malibu neighborhood earlier this week.

The Hollywood icon, who turned 96 in December, was snapped running errands with wife Arlene Silver, 50, Tuesday, just days before the couple’s tenth wedding anniversary.

The Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang legend looked steady on his feet and required no assistance as he and Arlene tended to their tasks on a windy afternoon in the coastal city.

And despite being in his mid 90s, the actor remains well enough to drive and was later spotted driving himself home in his silver Lexus.

Dick, whose full name is Richard Wayne Van Dyke, appeared dressed down and relaxed wearing a blue sweatshirt, sweatpants, sandals and a ‘man bag’, while Arlene wore a black outfit with a puffer jacket.

Last week the pair celebrated Valentine’s Day as well as their upcoming decade of marriage by releasing an adorable video of themselves dancing together.

At 96, the national treasure is 46 years older than the former make-up artist, but Dick proved he could keep up with his wife in the video.

The pair – who will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on February 29 – performed a cheery cover of Everybody Loves a Lover, a Richard Adler and Robert Allen song made popular by Doris Day in 1958.

Despite being a nonagenarian, Dick has continued to perform in his recent years, and in 2020 formed a barbershop quartet called The Vantastix, who also appeared in the music video.

He previously told Parade of performing with the group: ‘It’s my favorite thing to do.

‘It’s kind of my retirement amusement. I don’t play golf. I have more fun singing and dancing.’

Dick originally met Arlene when she was working at the 13th Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2007, where he presented Julie Andrews with a lifetime achievement award.

The couple then tied the knot in 2012, with Arlene opting for a red wedding dress.

‘It’s one of the smartest moves I ever made,’ Dick told Parade. ‘She makes me happy. She’s very mature for her age, and I’m very immature for my age, so it’s just about right!’

Dick was previously married for 30 years to the late Margie Willett, which ended in 1984 after a six-year separation.

The couple had four children – son Barry, 70; son Christian, daughter Stacy, and daughter Carrie, 60.

Dick also lived with singer-dancer Michelle Triola from 1976 until her death in 2009 from lung cancer.

Dick is probably best known for his memorable roles in The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-66), Mary Poppins (1964), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) and, most recently, Mary Poppins Returns (2018).

Last May, Dick received the 43rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors, joking to The Mirror: ‘I just turned 95, so I’m happy to be anywhere. Had I known I’d live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.’
