A Coles Mother’s Day voucher booklet has been slammed as sexist for suggesting kids help with the laundry or let mum ‘take a night off cooking’.
Canberra father Dan Wheelahan complained about the tokens on social media, saying it perpetuated gender stereotypes.
The booklet includes vouchers a mother can redeem for washing dishes, doing a load of laundry, vacuuming, and taking a night off from cooking.

‘While this idea of a ‘Mum’s Voucher Booklet’ for Mothers Day was probably well intentioned it sends a wrong message to kids that it is only mums that cook, clean and do household chores,’ Mr Wheelahan tweeted at supermarket Coles.
‘C’mon you can do better. We are not living in the 1950s.’
The father said the gift assumed only mothers, not fathers, were responsible for domestic chores like cooking and cleaning.
‘Coles [is] perpetuating gender stereotypes to the next generation of Australian children when it comes to who does the household chores,’ he said.

Offers of breakfast in bed or a sleep-in were also up for grabs, as well as a clean room, an hour of no interruptions and a day of ‘no arguing’.
‘I’m looking forward to seeing the Father’s Day version of the voucher booklet with all the same chores in it as opposed to mowing the lawn, washing the car, doing the gardening etc,’ wrote Mr Wheelahan.
‘Wow,’ one mother responded to the tweet.
‘In saying that, I would still really love my kids to do the damn dishes!’
