Police are expecting disruption from anti-Russia protestors ahead of Sunday’s EFL Cup final at Wembley.

The Metropolitan Police have been made aware of the potential for demonstrations against the Russian regime following the attacks on Ukraine this week which have caused a global backlash.

And London’s police force have an ‘extensive plan’ in place to deal with any flashpoints created by public protests that could disrupt Sunday’s clash between Liverpool and Chelsea.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s alleged links with Vladimir Putin’s regime have been under intense scrutiny this week and Sunday’s final will provide protestors with a platform to make their voices heard following the shocking Russian invasion.

Sportsmail revealed this week how the Football Association have put in place an upgraded security operation at Wembley amid the worrying rise in cases of supporter disorder.

Significantly more police and stewards will be deployed inside and outside Wembley Stadium on Sunday to combat anyone intent on causing trouble, while an increased number of sniffer dogs will be deployed to detect any supporters in possession of drugs.

Brent Council will also enforce a ‘No Drinking Zone’ around the national stadium.

But the possibility of protests from groups intent on vocalising their opposition towards Russia has provided police with another headache ahead of the first domestic final of the season.
