The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on Friday morning at the age of 99. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon was among the political leaders who offered their condolences. The First Minister said: “I am saddened by news that the Duke of Edinburgh has died.
“I send my personal and deepest condolences – and those of [the] Scottish Government and people of Scotland – to Her Majesty The Queen and her family.”
However some hard-line nationalists responded objecting to the First Minister’s statement with some even celebrating the Prince’s death.
This has resulted in Express.co.uk readers sharing their fury over the nationalists’ comments.
One person said: “I am absolutely disgusted at such horrendous vitriol.”
Another added: “If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all.”
One user from Glasgow replied: “Don’t include the people of Scotland in your message, good riddance to him.”
Another added: “I love you Nicola but I’m afraid I couldn’t care less.”
A third commented: “Nothing to do with us, not my monarchy and never will be.”
A fourth stated: “I honestly don’t care. Didn’t know him, didn’t care for his family.”

Another added: “Absolutely disgusted with some of the comments on here.
“Not really showing Scotland as a caring, kind nation is it?
“The man served this country and did a lot for young people.
“If you can’t say anything nice then don’t.”
Scotland Herald columnist Iain Macwhirter posted: “Twitter is disgusting today.
“A stomach-churning display of insensitivity and mindless nastiness over Prince Philip. These people disgrace the left.”
Douglas Ross, the Scottish Conservative leader, said: “In the middle of a political campaign, this is a reminder of what’s most important in life.
Prince Philip was married to the Queen for 73 years with the couple being wed in 1947.
