This is the first picture of a woman who was found dead at her home after suffering severe head injuries.

Beth Aspey, 34, was discovered in her property in Reading, Berks, on Friday by paramedics.

Today her boyfriend, 45-year-old Ben Shand, appeared in court charged with her murder.

He stood in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court this morning to make his first appearance in court.  

It comes four days after an ambulance crew rushed to her property in Laud Close, Reading.

Today her boyfriend, 45-year-old Ben Shand (pictured), appeared in court charged with her murder.

Paramedics called police around 4.30pm on Friday after finding Ms Aspey dead at the scene.  

Shand, of Crescent Road, Reading, will appear at Reading Crown Court this afternoon charged with one count of murder.

He has been remanded in custody until this afternoon’s hearing.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: ‘Detectives would like to continue to appeal for information relating to this incident and is particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw Beth at any stage on Friday.’

Today friends of Ms Aspey said they were planning a candle-lit vigil in her memory. 

One neighbour said: ‘Some of her friends have been back and forth, they know more about her than I do.

‘Her friends are starting to find out it a bit more now and a few came yesterday.

‘A couple of us residents, when we are home from work, are going to lay some flowers.

‘We are going to do a candle-lit vigil as soon as the wind dies down.’ 

Several bouquets of flowers have today been placed outside the entrance of Ms Aspey’s property. 

Detectives meanwhile remain at the scene, which is cordoned off by blue police tape.

Two police officers and a community support officer stood guard outside the entrance to the flats today.
