In a 2020 report on gun violence, the Children’s Defense Fund claimed that gun violence was the second leading cause of death for children and teens ages 1-19.

According to the report, in 2017, 3,410 children and teens were killed with guns in America—the highest number since 1998.

The study also found that since 1963, 186,239 children and teens have been killed with guns in the United States, ‘four times the number of U.S. soldiers killed in action in the Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq wars combined.’
