Director-General of the think tank Centre for Brexit Policy John Longworth insisted the UK and US do and will continue to have a good trading relationship. During an interview with Express.co.uk, Mr Longworth explained the US and UK are able to trade effectively without a trade deal as things stand. He added he sees no reason why Boris Johnson and Joe Biden would not be able to come to an agreement on agriculture, despite notions from critics.
He also highlighted the strong security links between the UK and US and insisted Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden will form agreements that work for both their nations.
Mr Longworth said: “Clearly Donald Trump promised Britain would be ahead of the queue for a trade deal with the US.
“There has been a lot of speculation that Joe Biden may not be as forthcoming in that respect.
“The US are a pragmatic nation and actually Britain and the US already have very strong trading relations, even without a trade deal.

“In fact, it shows exactly how poor the European Union internal market it that the US is Britain’s biggest export market, even though there is no trade relations.
“With or without trade relations, the US and UK will have good business links.
“I think it is actually highly likely that we will get to a trade deal.
“The sticking points will be around agriculture and the extent to which we are able to accept US standards and regulations.
“The Five Eyes network, which includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, US and the UK, have worked very closely together to prevent terrorism.
“They have also helped to prevent a third world war and make sure that the world operates in the rule of law.
“It has been much more successful in maintaining peace than the European Union ever was or can be.”
