Armed police surround a house in South Shields and cordon off street amid large-scale emergency

  • Forensic teams were in and around Marshall Wallis Road throughout the day 
  • A large portion of the street was also taped off after the incident in South Shields
  • Armed police rushed to the scene after reports of a serious attack this morning


There were dramatic scenes this evening as armed officers pointed guns at the front and back of a house in South Shields, South Tyneside. 

Forensic teams were in and around Marshall Wallis Road throughout the day and a large portion of the street was taped off. 

It is understood emergency services had rushed to the area as a result of a serious attack in the early hours of the morning. 

Around seven armed officers pointed guns towards a terraced property at 6pm.

At least eight police vehicles plus a forensics team were at a property on Marshall Wallis Road

The were a further two policemen at the back of the house but they left half an hour later. 

One local said: ‘It’s a really scary thing when there are armed police on the street. 

‘I left my door unlocked last night by accident. It really makes you worry about your safety.’

Another resident reported seeing emergency services vehicles from both Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service in the street in the early hours of Saturday morning

A person who lives on nearby Alice Road said: 'I've lived here for 30 years and never seen anything like this'

Another resident reported seeing emergency services vehicles from both Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service in the street in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

They said: ‘At about 1.45am last night I saw flashing lights in the window. I went to see what was happening and I saw an ambulance, a police van and two or three police cars.’ 

A neighbour added: ‘My husband went out to get a paper. When he came back he said the area had been cordoned off by police.

‘Obviously these things happen but you don’t expect it on your doorstep.’ 

Others living nearby said they saw armed officers and police dog units.

Northumbria Police have been contacted for comment.
