Anthony Mundine appeared to be brushed by rising star Paul Fleming on his entrance to the ring on the undercard for Tim Tszyu’s blockbuster fight. 

Mundine, who was in the crowd for the sell-out event in Newcastle on Wednesday night, attempted to embrace Fleming as he walked to the ring with an entourage of Indigenous dancers.

Fleming won the fight in commanding fashion and would eventually thank Mundine who he described as his ‘inspiration’ and the ‘reason he started boxing’.

Fleming won his fight against local favourite Tyson Lantry with a dominant display that saw Lantry’s team throw in the towel despite his opponent struggling with a hand injury suffered during the bout.

Legendary boxer Jeff Fenech described his performance as ‘good as a performance I’ve seen from anyone in Australia for a long time.’

The 32-year-old entered the ring wearing bright blue shorts and a jacket decorated with indigenous art.

He was accompanied by several Aboriginal dancers with didgeridoos providing the backing music.

A two-minute clip was shown in the arena of highlights of Mundine’s decorated boxing career before he was interviewed ringside. 

Fleming thanked Mundine for turning up after the fight, saying that after his family and team that he was his biggest inspiration.

The 32-year-old said he owed his career to Mundine and thanked him for everything before sharing an emotional embrace ringside.
