‘We can still see all the animals!’ ‘Amazing’ kindergarten teacher takes his pupils to the ZOO in a 30-minute virtual field trip

A kind-hearted kindergarten teacher filmed himself as he took his pupils to the zoo in a 30-minute virtual field trip.
Garett Talcott, Mr Talcott to his students, 32, teaches at Ella Baker Elementary in Redmond, Washington, and decided to take his class to the zoo even though Covid restrictions meant they wouldn’t be able to physically attend.
Mr Talcott is seen holding up his laptop as he is on a video call with his 28 students when he arrives at the zoo.

He says to them: ‘Why not still go to the zoo and you guys can come with!’
One student can be heard responding: ‘And we can still see all the animals!’
As he approaches the first exhibit he is heard saying: ‘What is this? Let’s be great readers.’
He then takes his laptop over to the sign next to the enclosure and the children can be heard shouting: ‘It’s a tapir.’
Mr Talcott then goes to the rhinoceros enclosure and shows the children before the animal runs away.
One student says: ‘This is a great trip.’

Mr Talcott then goes to a different enclosure and asks: ‘What do you see about the orang-utans habitat outside? What is it?
‘Do you see the orang-utan coming? It’s coming outside now. It looks like he’s eating some grass, let’s keep going.’
At the end of the field trip Mr Talcott asks his students: ‘What did you guys think about our class field trip?’
A chorus of children can be heard saying: ‘It’s amazing!’
When he asks whether the children want to go on another virtual field trip with him they all shout ‘Yes!’
Mr Talcott, who has been a teacher for eight years, says he plans on taking his students on other field trips to an aquarium, the space needle and a recording studio if he can get wifi.

Mr Talcott replies: ‘I LOVED HEARING THAT! I wanted to make sure that they were getting something out of it… that they could see, etc.’
Another user wrote: ‘Such a creative way to enhance the learning experience.’
Mr Talcott responded to say: ‘It was such a fun day! We only had a 30-minute slot for this so we moved quick!’
And another wrote: ‘You are an amazing teacher! Those kids will remember that field trip for forever!’
And Mr Talcott said: ‘I hope so! And I hope they go with their families as it is a fun real life experience too.’
